Just days after this clearly-manipulated photo of Katie Couric started making the rounds (first on the web, but my wife pointed it out in People Magazine, too) we get the word that HP has announced a new digital camera with a “Slimming” function. According to the page on HP.com:

They say cameras add ten pounds, but HP digital cameras can help reverse that effect. The slimming feature, available on select HP digital camera models, is a subtle effect that can instantly trim off pounds from the subjects in your photos!

And to think we all thought that CBS used Photoshop.

So now you know…

I am not a child of the 60’s but my heart is true to the cause, man. I realize that being a hippie is not just bell bottoms and tie-dye. It is also about the drugs and smelling bad, too!

The nice little Flash South Park character generator at Planearium certainly isn’t something new, but man if they haven’t improved it since the last time I tried it. Tons more props, hair types, etc. If you’ve ever wondered what you would look like on the streets of South Park, CO (and really, who hasn’t?), then give it a try.

The Real Atrocity in Tolkien’s Middle Earth, by Jeff Alexander and Tom Bissell is one of the funniest pieces of satire I have read in ages. Well done!

Some deep-rooted part of my Wisconsin upbringing has me fascinated by this Canadian dish.

Poutine is a French-Canadian concoction comprised of french fries, gravy, and cheese curds.

Wow. That looks horribly fattening and VERY good. Did I mention that Cheese curds are the best food ever?

Even I have to admit this is pretty funny:

Bush’s unpopularity with many Canadians was underscored as thousands marched through the streets of the Canadian capital to protest the visit.

But the two leaders made light of the demonstrations, with Martin remarking jokingly that Bush seemed to draw larger crowds than he does.

“I don’t know if that’s good or bad,” Bush said. “It all depends on who shows up I guess.”

In another quip, Bush expressed appreciation for Canadians who greeted him on the route from the airport waving “with all five fingers.”

That’s far more clever than the guy we saw the past few months.
